SUV marked the debut of the Chinese brand in Brazil, it is already made in the interior of São Paulo and is the best-selling hybrid in the country
GWM (Great Wall Motors) was one of the brands that pulled the current wave of Chinese automakers in Brazil. The manufacturer arrived very strategically in the country and today already has an assembly line in the interior of São Paulo where it makes the GWM Haval H6, the car that marked the beginning of the company’s sales here.
Today, the Haval H6 is the best-selling hybrid car in the country. In addition, the SUV has a certain variety of versions and two types of electrification, which further improves its offer in the used and used market.

GWM set up an office in Brazil even before the pandemic. All to monitor and study the local market. But activities began in earnest only in March 2023, with the start of importing the Haval H6 from China.
The hybrid SUV arrived in three variants, but has gained new versions over the years. In 2024, an entry-level plug-in option debuted and in 2025 a limited series One was launched, with 2 units.

In the same year, already as a 2026 line, the Haval H6 underwent a restyling to mark the beginning of assembly at the former Mercedes-Benz factory in Iracemápolis (SP). In the ride, he received updates in the mechanics. At the beginning of 2026, there was still a limited edition of 800 units for the PwD public.
In 2025, the GWM Haval H6 was the best-selling hybrid car in the country. The SUV range had almost 32 thousand registrations from January to December, and surpassed BYD models and the Toyota Corolla Cross.

Currently the model is sold in four trim versions, with prices between R$ 223 thousand and R$ 325 thousand, and two types of hybrid set, which we will see now.
The entry-level Haval H6 is the HEV2, which uses a full hybrid system, the one in which it is not necessary to charge the battery. GWM kept the 1.5 turbo gasoline engine, but it was updated: it gained a water intercooler, variable oil pump and electronic water pump.

In this version, the combustion engine works with a 1.7 kWh battery that powers the electric motor, in addition to an automated dual-clutch transmission. With this, the combined power is 243 hp, torque at 54.5 kgfm, urban consumption is 14.7 km/l and road consumption is 11.4 km/l (PBEV/Inmetro).
Just above comes the Haval H6 PHEV19, the most affordable plug-in version of the line. The 1.5 turbo engine is the same, except that the electric propulsion is supported by 19 kWh rechargeable batteries. The dual-clutch gearbox remains.
In the PHEV19, the set provides 326 hp and 54,5 kgfm combined. According to the 2025 PBEV table, the range in purely electric mode is 73 km. Consumption in the city is 13.5 km/l, while on the highway it is 11.9 km/l.
The most expensive options in the line are those that use two electric motors – one on each axle – and all-wheel drive (with five driving modes) combined with the 1.5 turbocharged gasoline. In the Haval H6, PHEV35 and GT, the power reaches 393 hp and the torque, at 78,7 kgfm, the electric range is 119 km.

In PBEV cycle consumption, the Haval H6 PHEV35 does 12.0 km/l in the city and 10.9 km/l on the highway. The H6 GT, on the other hand, scores urban averages of 12.6 km/l and road averages of 10.5 km/l, also according to Inmetro criteria.
The medium SUV still suffers from that more “soft” setup that Chinese cars have. But this perception has improved a lot in the 2026 line, with a different calibration of shock absorbers and springs, which leave the Haval H6 still with a soft set-up, but much less “banheirão”.
In curves, there is also an improvement in body rigidity. In addition, the steering is a little more direct than the first SUVs imported from China.
One of the great assets of the GWM Haval H6 is precisely the comfort on board. Starting with the space for five occupants provided by the 4.70 meters long and 2.73 m wheelbase. The driving position is also pleasing most of the time.
The trunk is another highlight. There are 560 liters of capacity, with the exception of the GT (515 liters), enough to receive luggage of the most varied sizes. At the same time, the hybrid SUV’s sound insulation is efficient at normal speeds and the suspension filters holes well.

The Haval H6 was heavily criticized for the finish with some details that gave a very simple look to the hybrid SUV. Especially the steering wheel, with a dull design, bad grip and too thin a rim.
In the 2026 line, the Haval H6 gained a new steering wheel. The piece now has a straight base, a better and thicker grip, as well as a two-spoke core.

In the interior finish of the cabin, the rubberized and leather-related and glossy black coatings improved the perception of quality. As well as the closures and fittings of the plastic parts, which also gained greater precision.
The GWM Haval H6 is currently traded in four trim versions. Check out the list of standard items and prices for each one.

One of the problems of the most “famous” Haval H6 – and which even prompted a recall – was the sudden loss of power and even total engine stop reported by several owners of the model.
According to GWM, this was caused by a failure in the thermostatic valve of the high-voltage battery cooling system. The battery heats up and activates the system’s protection mode, which reduces the power of the engine precisely to make the driver stop. The recall for this case involved 2025 units.
In addition, in forums with SUV owners and records on Reclame Aqui they talk about problems with the multimedia center, delays in certain spare parts in the dealership network and failures in the air conditioning.
