After 12 years, Volkswagen is once again offering a commemorative series alluding to the World Cup. VW presented a special series of the T-Cross to mark its partnership with the Brazilian National Team, which will try to win the sixth in the 2026 World Cup. Named “Seleção”, the version bets on visual elements that refer to the Escrete Canarinho.

Priced at R$ 129.990, the edition is based on the Sense entry configuration. The T-Cross Seleção received an additional package that includes exclusive blue paint, themed stickers and alloy wheels, creating a visual identity linked to football, with a sill with graphics referring to the five titles of the National Team.

Inside, the T-Cross Seleção maintains the standard already known from the most affordable versions. The finish favors simple materials, with fabric upholstery and the absence of more sophisticated items. The digital instrument panel is present, but not in the brand’s most advanced configuration, while the multimedia center and analog air conditioning complete the set.

Under the hood, there are no mechanical changes. The SUV is still equipped with the 200 TSI engine, which delivers 128 hp and 20,4 kgfm of torque, always associated with a six-speed automatic transmission.

It worked in two cups

Since the 1980s, VW has sponsored and created editions to celebrate the World Cup. The strategy began in 1982, with the launch of the Volkswagen Gol Copa, during the World Cup in Spain, marking the first initiative of its kind in Brazil. The association helped consolidate the image of the Gol, which was slipping in sales due to the choice of the Beetle’s weak air engine, and paved the way for new thematic editions. In 1994, the Tetra Goal celebrated the world title in the United States and marked the farewell of the “square” generation, at a time when the model was leading sales in the country.

In the following years, it maintained the editions with versions such as the 2002 Gol Sport, associated with the fifth championship, and the 2006 Gol Cup, the last edition of this lineage. In 2010, the partnership with the Brazilian national team intensified with the Gol Seleção, followed in 2014 by a broader line that also included Volkswagen Voyage and Volkswagen Fox in themed versions. But it lacked agreement with the Germans (who were not VW’s).
