Mechanics of Renault Koleos

The Koleos is an HEV, that is, a full hybrid, or “self-charging” that combines the 1.5-liter turbocharged engine, with direct injection, with two electric motors coupled to the DHT (Dual Hybrid Transmission) automatic transmission with a 1.64 kWh lithium-ion battery.

This structure allows it to deliver 245 hp, associating a 144 hp (23.4 kgfm) combustion engine and two electric motors that add up to 136 hp (32.6 kgfm). According to Renault, the Koleos should run up to 75% of the time in an urban environment with only the electric motor. Acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h is done in 8.3 seconds and the top speed is electronically limited to 180 km/h.

Consumption of the hybrid SUV

The energy efficiency of the Renault Koleos is 1.70 MJ/km and gasoline consumption in the city is 13.1 km/l and 12.1 km/l on the highway, according to Inmetro’s Brazilian Vehicle Labeling Program (PBEV). The model has 5 driving modes: Eco, Comfort, Sport. AI and Snow.

Dimensions

The Renault Koleos is made on the CMA platform, used by Geely – which owns 26% of Renault in Brazil – and Volvo, controlled by the Chinese brand. The interior space is one of the highlights of the hybrid SUV. It has a length of 4.77 meters, a wheelbase of 2.82 m, a width of 1.88 and a height of 1.68 m. The trunk has a capacity of 431 liters.

Standard items and finishing

Renault draws inspiration from the design codes of the Alpine brand and incorporates the two-tone roof, satin paint finish on the esprit Alpine full hybrid E-Tech version, as well as laser-engraved blue accents on the doors, bumpers and front grille. This version has 20” diamond and blacked-out wheels.

The finish and coating have materials such as leather and Alcantara. Also noteworthy are the three high-resolution 12.3″ panels with compatibility with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.

The experience is complemented by functions such as gesture control, which allows you to adjust the volume or settings without touching the buttons, real-time camera viewing and remote system updates (FOTA). The sound system has Bose’s signature with 10 speakers and active noise cancellation transforms each journey into an immersive and silent experience.

The available colors are:

  • Metallic gray;
  • Satin gray;
  • Universal white;
  • Metallic black.

Renault Koleos Safety

The SUV comes with up to 29 advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS). Among them, the autonomous parking system stands out, capable of manoeuvring automatically in a beacon, perpendicular or diagonal. Also noteworthy are the 7 airbags.

It also features Level 2 autonomous driving in fast lanes, helping to keep the vehicle in lane, regulating the distance according to the vehicle moving forward and providing lane change assistance, for a smoother driving experience on longer journeys.

As for active safety, the Koleos also incorporates automatic emergency braking both front and rear, evasive maneuver assistant to avoid collisions through quick and safe maneuvers, as well as lane keeping assistant to prevent unintentional exits.

Renault itself also highlights the 360º camera with 540° transparent chassis function, which allows the driver to see what is happening around and under the vehicle, facilitating control in maneuvers and difficult terrain.
