Petrobras announced that it will reduce the price of gasoline by 5.2% for distributors this Tuesday (27). As a result, the price of a liter will fall from R$ 2.71 to R$ 2.57, a drop of R$ 0.14.

It is the second consecutive gasoline price reduction that Petrobras has made, the last one was in October 2025. The company also informed that the price of diesel fuel will not be changed at the moment.

The reduction in prices was for gasoline A, the pure fuel that leaves the refineries, without the addition of ethanol. The distributors buy from Petrobras and add the vegetable fuel.

Consumers depend on distributors and gas stations to feel this reduction in the price of gasoline A. Until it reaches the pump, the value is changed by the addition of anhydrous ethanol, federal and state taxes, logistics costs and the profit margin of the stations.

This move by Petrobras may represent a relief in the country’s inflation, since gasoline is a product with the greatest weight in the Extended National Consumer Price Index (IPCA).

What is Brazilian gasoline like?

Brazil has the peculiarity of using a high proportion of ethanol mixed with regular gasoline. Since 2025, the proportion is 30% of vegetable fuel in petroleum derivatives.

The exception is in premium gasoline, which maintained the proportion of 25% ethanol in the blend. As the value is higher, it is more suitable for high-performance cars or old models.

Another particularity of Brazilian gasoline is the existence of a fuel that is not additive. In other countries it is standard to have dispersant detergent additives, but here there is still the option of buying without, which generates more carbon deposits in the engine.

Despite these factors, the gasoline A produced by Petrobras is considered one of the best in the world due to its low sulfur content and high octane rating even in the common one.
