IPVA ES 2026: see values, how to pay and who has a discount

Payment in a single quota guarantees a 15% reduction in the tax; Vehicles with more than 15 years of manufacture are exempt

The Government of Espírito Santo (ES), through the Department of Finance (Sefaz), released the due dates of the 2026 Motor Vehicle Property Tax (IPVA) and other important information. IPVA ES charges start in April, with different payment options:

  • in cash (single quota) with discount;
  • divided into up to 6 monthly installments

The single quota and first installment (in case of installments) will expire between April 1st and 8th, according to the final number of the vehicle’s license plate, whether it is a car, motorcycle, truck, bus or minibus.

Drivers who pay the IPVA in a single quota will have a 15% discount, a significant reduction and greater than that offered by many states such as Minas Gerais (6%), Ceará (10%) or São Paulo (3%).

In addition, in Espírito Santo, the IPVA rate is the lowest in the Southeast region and one of the lowest in the country:

  • 1% on motorcycles, buses and trucks;
  • 2% on passenger cars and utility vehicles.

Tax payment schedule in Espírito Santo

Those who choose to pay the tax in six installments will have the quotas due in April, May, June, July, August and September 2025. The dates are determined according to the ends of the license plates:

How to pay the tax

The IPVS ES 2026 payment slips will be available on the internet, as of January 2026, and will no longer be forwarded to the taxpayers’ address. To issue the boleto:

  1. Access the website of Sefaz-ES or the State Department of Traffic of Espírito Santo (Detran-ES);
  2. Select the tab related to IPVA;
  3. Provide the necessary information, such as Renavam;
  4. Issue the Single Collection Document (DUA).

It is not necessary to print the slip for the payment to be made, but Sefaz recommends that the taxpayer electronically file the DUA that was paid, or the printed document, if any future verification is necessary.

Internet Banking users can scan the barcode or enter the number. If preferred, the taxpayer can also enter the code generated in a self-service equipment of the bank of choice. Payment can also be made through pix.

Who is entitled to the IPVA ES 2026 exemption

Vehicles from the year of manufacture 2010 will be automatically exempt from paying the tax in 2026, as they are more than 15 years old. Other rules for IPVA exemption vary by state, but generally include:

  • Cars of public transport service concessionaires,
  • Land vehicles with an engine power of less than 50 cm³;
  • Vessels with a power of less than 25 hp;
  • Agricultural machinery;
  • Taxis owned by self-employed professional drivers;
  • Cars registered in the name of people with disabilities (PwDs);
  • Vehicles belonging to embassies and diplomats.
