Government wants to facilitate the CNH with the end of the beacon

There seems to be a “competition” between the Federal and State Governments to make it as easy as possible to renew or obtain the National Driver’s License (CNH). The intention is, obviously, to remove bureaucracies, but one must first consider possible consequences for traffic safety.

It seems clear and acceptable that 20 mandatory hours of theoretical classes can be an exaggeration. However, what matters is the rigor of the exams, both in the theoretical and practical parts.

As Paulo Guimarães, CEO of the National Road Safety Observatory, reminded us, “in Japan there is no obligation to take a theoretical course, but it is necessary to get 90% of the questions right. Here, only two-thirds (66%)”. There is no need to compare the fatal accident rate in Brazil with that of Japan.

So, there is clearly a demagogic bias that estimates that there are 20 million drivers and motorcyclists without a license in the country. It was not explained how this number was reached, since the actual circulating fleet is much smaller than the registered fleet. There is, therefore, an evident exaggeration.

Automatic renewal is positive

A positive point was the automatic renewal of the CNH for those who did not commit a traffic violation in the 12 months prior to the end of the validity of the document, established on January 9. Drivers over 70 years old do not fit this standard, which is correct.

Nine State Traffic Departments responded with the end of the beacon test to park in spaces parallel to the vehicle. In fact, this will make it easier to obtain the CNH, but there is great potential to increase congestion with the natural difficulties of many beginners. São Paulo, where there is the largest fleet in the country, has already joined.

Another facility that only reflects the constantly rising sales: practical exams can be done with manual or automatic transmission cars. This is a reality and its adoption has nothing to do with the stigma of good or bad driver.

Respecting rules and avoiding fines must be in everyone’s conscience and responsibility. In traffic jams, especially, eliminating the clutch pedal reduces stress and fatigue.

Chinese Jetour: what to expect

The brand debuted with three plug-in hybrid SUVs (Photo: Jetour | Disclosure)

Founded in 2018, part of the Chery Group (here in collaboration with CAOA Group), Jetour has an independent life and starts with three imported medium SUVs: the almost crossover S06 and two traditional line SUVs, T1 and T2, without 4×4 traction (which will come later). All are plug-in hybrids, a category that is growing a lot in China.

There is already a decision to build a factory in Brazil, based on disassembled kits, with a probable definition of the location next April. Three other models will arrive in 2026. Flex engines will be developed here. The first dynamic evaluations were at the Velocitta racetrack, in Mogi Mirim (SP).

S06 presents striking lines, but within the Chinese “school”. It is differentiated by the use of laminated glass in the front doors and, in the top version, a huge 15.6-inch multimedia screen. 20″ wheels, ADAS package (level 2) with 540º camera. It guarantees good interior space through the wheelbase of 2.72 m.

A weak point is the trunk of only 416 l. Gasoline engine, 135 hp and 20,4 kgfm and an electric one, 204 hp and 31,6 kgfm. Combined power: 315 hp. Although it demonstrates safety on asphalt, there are evident limitations in off-road use due to the battery on the floor that reduces the ground clearance. Prices between R$ 199.990 and R$ 229.990.

Both the T1 and the T2 (the first more discreet than the second) can please more those who like or need to use them away from the asphalt. Among the interesting details, the rectangular outer spare tire cover, for temporary use (not ideal for off-road), in the center of the lid of the good 574 l trunk. However, there is the same battery restriction on the floor. Wheelbase increases to 2,800 mm.

The T2 has a look consistent with that of a root SUV, although it does not yet have the safety of all-wheel drive. The gasoline engine is the same in all three models, but at the top of the line there are two electric ones: 102 hp and 17,3 kgfm acts in conjunction with the gasoline engine and another with 122 hp and 22,4 kgfm operates, through gears, with the three-speed DHT gearbox. These specifications are unconventional and, if there is a problem, it will hurt the pocket, as is already the case with direct competitors.

Immersion capacity of 70 cm and includes flooding sensor. Highlight is the acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h in 7.5 s. However, the range in electric mode decreases from 13 km to 75 km. Thanks to the 70-liter tank and the fully charged battery, it is possible to travel up to 1,100 km. T1, lighter, 1,200 km of range.

Prices: T2, R$ 289.990 to 299.900; T1, R$ 249.900 to R$ 264.900.

Geely expands network to stand out among Chinese women

Chinese competition in Brazil continues to be increasingly fierce. And the strategy is to follow the best marketing practices, such as Geely, which has just opened its first flagship dealership in São Paulo (SP). It is part of the Itavema Group and in addition to a differentiated sales hall, it will seek to meet the emotional concepts of those interested.

The brand confirmed that it intends to increase its national network to 40 dealerships and launch the EX5 EM-i plug-in hybrid SUV, initially imported. In the second half of 2026, this model is expected to be assembled at the Renault plant in São José dos Pinhais (PR), already in accordance with the regulations of the federal Mover program, published on the 22nd. Geely acquired 26.4% of Renault’s Brazilian subsidiary.

Abroad, Renault and Geely are equal partners of Horse (45% each), together with the oil company Aramco (10%), to develop combustion and hybrid engines. Ampere is the subsidiary of the French brand exclusively for electric vehicles.

Geely has set a target of producing 6.5 million units per year by 2030, which would place it in fifth place in the world market, adding all 10 brands in which it owns: Volvo, Polestar, Lotus, Zeekr, Link & Co, Proton, LEVC, Farizon, Geometry and Geely Galaxy. It is now the world’s seventh-largest group with 4.5 million units sold last year.

Currently, there are 14 Chinese brands operating in the country. It is the fifth largest market for the Chinese, behind Mexico, Russia, the United Arab Emirates and the United Kingdom, in this descending order, according to the British news agency Reuters.
