According to a member of the Neue Klasse family, the sedan adopts 800-volt architecture, futuristic design and autonomy that promises to revolutionize the segment
The BMW 3 Series, one of the most iconic sports sedans in the world, has reached the biggest revolution in its history. It is the debut of the eighth generation of the series, which marks its definitive transition to the electric era with the debut of the unprecedented BMW i3. The first member of the new Neue Klasse family, the vehicle represents not only a technological leap, but a reinvention of the very identity of the Bavarian brand, which is now betting on agile driving, extreme digitalization and ultra-fast charging.

With a length of 4.76 meters and a wheelbase of 2.9 meters — slightly larger and more imposing dimensions than those of the current generation — the sedan displays proportions marked by short overhangs and detached wheel arches. The exterior design gains a clean and futuristic outline, accentuated by light signatures that redefine the classic double-kidney grille. Headlights and taillights, now narrow and horizontal, almost join the center, creating a striking three-dimensional effect. The optional Iconic Glow package adds illuminated contours and unique welcome animations, while recessed door handles ensure flawless aerodynamic fluidity.
In the interior, the break with the past is even more evident. The i3 consolidates an immersive experience through the Panoramic iDrive system, which projects essential information along the entire base of the windshield. The 17.9″ multimedia center, slightly facing the driver, concentrates the vehicle’s controls, being complemented by an intelligent assistant with natural language commands. The entire electronic architecture is operated by the so-called “Heart of Joy”, a superprocessor that manages everything from driving dynamics to Level 2 semi-autonomous driving, with response up to ten times faster than the old systems.

Under the floor, the performance promises to keep the sporty DNA intact. Powered by 108.7 kWh batteries and an 800-volt architecture, the i3 aims for up to 900 km of range (WLTP cycle). Support for chargers up to 400 kW allows you to recover from 10% to 80% of the energy in a short 21 minutes. In the versions confirmed so far, the 40 xDrive and the 50 xDrive, both have two motors and all-wheel drive. The set delivers up to 469 hp and 65,8 kgfm, going from zero to 100 km/h in about four seconds. In addition, the bidirectional charging system transforms the car into a mobile energy source, capable of supplying external devices, homes or even the local electricity grid.
The new BMW i3 has already been confirmed to arrive in Brazil, and should take place between 2026 and 2027. The BMW iX3 — another Neue Klasse model already presented — is already running in homologation tests here.
