The year 2026 began with a busy launch schedule, motivated by the news presented at the Motor Show in 2025. Brazil continues to receive new brands and established ones are moving to hold back this invasion.

The Ford Ranger XL, a model focused on heavy duty, no longer comes in a single configuration. It gained the option of a single cab and cab-chassis. Another change is that it is no longer the only model sold only with manual transmission, now all three cabin options can come with a manual or automatic transmission.
The engine remains the 2.0 EcoBlue four-cylinder in-line, with 170 hp and 41,3 kgfm. The traction of the XL version is 4×4.
The Caoa Group is responsible for bringing Changan to Brazil, without abandoning the long-standing relationship with Chery. The new Chinese brand represented by the Brazilian group made its debut with the luxury brand Avatr, which will serve as a showcase of everything they are capable of.
The Avatr 11 is a large SUV made in partnership with Huawei and CATL. The brand offers it in five- or four-seat configurations, the second with two individual seats in the rear.
The GAC GS3 arrives in Brazil as an alternative for those who do not want an electric or hybrid car. It is a compact SUV equipped with a 1.5 turbo gasoline-powered engine, entering the competitive segment that leads retail sales.
According to GAC, it wants to have an offer with all types of propulsion in Brazil, unlike other countrywomen that focus on electrified cars. The GS3 is sold in two versions.
Suzuki can no longer import the Jimny because the jeep does not meet Brazilian emissions standards. Japanese dealerships will now sell the e Vitara, which is an electric SUV imported from India.
The version chosen for Brazil has two engines, one on each axle. When combined, they deliver 184 hp and 31,2 kgfm, the autonomy is 293 km in the Inmetro cycle. It honors its name with an off-road mode, which controls all-wheel drive for use on low-grip surfaces.
Renault took advantage of its partnership with Geely to offer a medium-large hybrid SUV in Brazil, to combat the GWM Haval H6 and the BYD Song Plus. The Koleos is a car made with a Chinese platform, with a Volvo engine and produced in South Korea.
Despite this multinational origin, the design and ergonomics of the interior follow Renault standards. The hybrid system is of the full type, it does not require external recharging.
It seems that BYD updates the Song Plus annually. In 2025 it got a restyling, now the novelty was in the mechanics. The 1.5 engine was turbocharged, bringing the total combined power to 239 hp.
The battery has also grown, from 18.3 kWh to 26.6 kWh, raising the range in electric mode to 99 km. These changes seem to have come to hold back sales in the face of the national GWM Haval H6 and new competitors, such as the Jaecoo 7, the Omoda 7 and the Geely EX5 hybrid that is on the way.
BYD held the official launch of the Atto 8 along with the arrival of the Song Plus Turbo. This novelty arrives to be a luxurious seven-seater plug-in hybrid, an alternative to the 100% electric Tan.
The model has 488 hp, accelerates from zero to 100 km/h in 4.9 seconds and has a range of 111 km in electric mode. The luxury package includes active suspension, premium sound system and nine airbags
Volkswagen presented the renewed Taos in October 2025, but the launch was delayed for undisclosed reasons. The medium SUV now comes from Mexico with a renewed design and a significant reduction in prices to become competitive again.
The Volkswagen Taos 2026 continues with the 1.4 TSI engine with 150 hp and the eight-speed automatic transmission. Its main attributes in the competitive midsize SUV segment are interior space, efficient engine and good brand reputation.
The Hyundai Creta’s 1.6 turbo engine turned into flex and lost power in the process. It went from 193 hp to 176 hp with gasoline and 173 hp with ethanol, losing the position of the most powerful SUV in the segment. The torque of 27 kgfm has not changed, as well as the dual-clutch transmission.
Another change that came with the flex engine was the N Line version becoming the top of the line. It stopped using the 1.0 turbo and now uses this 1.6 turbo. The Ultimate is also offered with the strongest engine, for those who want performance but don’t want the sporty decoration.
The 2027 Hyundai Creta line didn’t just come with news at the top of the range, the base also received attention. It won the Action version, focused on the PwD public and priced at R$ 119.990. It is similar to Comfort, but it lost the ADAS package and the color options were reduced to three.
After being confirmed at the Motor Show, the Toyota GR Yaris was launched in Brazil in February. The compact sports hatch has the same mechanical set as the GR Corolla, with a 1.6 turbo engine with 304 hp and all-wheel drive, but the package is smaller and weighs 1.305 kg.
There will be only 198 units imported to Brazil, 99 with a six-speed manual transmission and 99 with an 8-speed automatic gearbox. The price is the same, the difference in content comes down to some indispensable ADAS features in the manual model.
Caoa Chery had shown the restyled Tiggo 5X at the Motor Show and put it on the market in February. The SUV maintains the old monocoque, but received aesthetic changes at the front, rear and side, being more aligned with the Tiggo 8.
Inside it has also changed a lot, with a new dashboard, new seats and more equipment. However, where it remains the same is in the mechanics: the 1.5 turbo engine that works with the nine-speed CVT transmission continues. At first it arrived only in the Sport and Pro versions, the mild hybrid model left the scene.
The Toyota Yaris Cross was presented in 2025 with four versions. It opened the 2026 launch season with the fifth version, the entry-level XR with a 1.5-liter naturally aspirated engine. This model removes the ADAS package and automatic air conditioning to be priced below the rival Honda HR-V.
The Toyota Hiace van hit the market only in passenger versions. In early 2026 it gained the cargo van version. The mechanics are the same as the Hilux, with the 2.8 turbodiesel engine and six-speed automatic transmission.
This version adds to the package of standard items the electric adjustment of the mirrors, the fog lights and the connected services. The load capacity is 1,055 kg with a load volume of 9.3 m³. The Hiace Van can be driven by drivers with a category B driver’s license.
Jetour is another Chery brand that arrived in Brazil through the headquarters, but independently of the other brands in the group and without Caoa’s participation. The S06 is a medium-large plug-in hybrid SUV, which has its sights set on the successful GWM Haval H6 and BYD Song Plus.
It differs from the rest of the line by having a more sophisticated look, without the off-road appeal. The Jetour S06 was launched in two versions and should be the brand’s highest volume car at this first moment.
The Jetour T1 is an alternative for those who prefer a beefier look than the S06. The mechanics are the same, with the 1.5 turbo gasoline being combined with an electric motor and driving the front wheels.
The T1 also comes more equipped, justifying the higher price than its brother. Its 26.7 kWh battery provides 88 km of range in electric mode.
The top of the Jetour initial range is the T2. This SUV measures almost 5 m in length, has a trunk lid with side opening and a more luxurious interior. Despite the jeep look, it has front-wheel drive like its brothers.
Its combustion engine is the same 1.5 turbo with direct injection, but here it works together with two electric motors and a three-speed gearbox, exceeding 300 hp. The battery is the same 26.7 kWh as the brothers, but due to the weight and stronger motors the range drops to 75 km.
It was already expected that Stellantis’ 2.0 turbo Hurricane engine would become flex in 2026. The first car with this power plant to be able to run on ethanol was the Jeep Compass Blackhawk. Vegetable fuel has not brought improvements in performance or additional power, the gains are in having more options when it comes to fueling.
The Volvo EX30 was launched in Brazil with only one engine, driving the rear axle. The two-engine version came with the adventurous Cross Country model. Now came the Ultra, for those who want more performance without the raised suspension.
The Volvo EX30 Ultra delivers 428 hp and 55,3 kgfm, which make the SUV accelerate from zero to 100 km/h in 3,6 s. The battery is 69 kWh and yields 316 km of autonomy.
BMW brought the new generation of the 1 Series starting from the M135 xDrive sports model. This model is a bigger brother of the Mini Cooper JCW, using a 317 hp version of the 2.0 turbo and featuring all-wheel drive.
Acceleration from zero to 100 km/h is 4.9 seconds, ranking among the fastest hatchbacks available in Brazil. The launch is part of the expansion of the M Performance line in Brazil, with the promise of more sports models.
