Military Police apprehended the 16-year-old minor in the act trying to escape; 29-year-old victim only discovered the crime after being warned by the authorities
While the faithful gathered for mass at the main church of Cruzeiro do Oeste, in the interior of Paraná, the street outside was transformed into the scene for a series of break-ins. On the night of last Wednesday (18), the Military Police apprehended a 16-year-old teenager who took advantage of the silence and absence of movement generated by the religious celebration to steal the vehicles parked around the parish.
The criminal action was interrupted thanks to the vigilance of residents of the region. The PM was called after anonymous complaints reported the presence of an individual in a suspicious attitude. According to reports, the young man walked among the cars using the flashlight of a cell phone to search the interior of the cabins and select his targets with greater precision before acting.

The suspect’s escape strategy collapsed around 8:20 pm. Upon noticing the approach of the police vehicle, the teenager tried to escape on foot, but was quickly restrained by the agents a few meters from the church. During the personal search, the police found evidence of the crime: two cell phones, a mask used to make recognition difficult and a screwdriver, a tool that was used to force car locks.

Faced with the flagrant, the young man showed no resistance in admitting the authorship of the crimes. He confessed to the police that he had invaded at least one of the vehicles and stolen one of the phones he was carrying, even indicating to the agents which car had just been violated. The owner of the property, a 29-year-old woman who was attending mass, was located and informed about the damage to her property.
Following the procedures of the Statute of the Child and Adolescent (ECA), the young offender was referred to the 7th Police Subdivision (SDP) of the neighboring city of Umuarama for the drawing up of the police report. The entire legal procedure was accompanied by a person in charge and guardianship counselors of the municipality.
