Stellantis will reduce the power of its 1.0 turbo flex engine, from the GSE family, to adapt its line of compact SUVs to the new Brazilian environmental protocols. The technical change, anticipated by the Autos Segredos website, has as its main objective the reduction of the emission of polluting gases, anticipating requirements that come into force in 2027.

Although the change results in a nominal reduction in power, the group’s engineering prioritized maintaining torque so as not to compromise handling. Currently, Stellantis’ 1.0-liter engine equips the Fiat Pulse, Fastback and Strada, the Citroën C3, Aircross and Basalt and the Peugeot 208 and 2008. Soon, the engine will also equip the national Jeep Avenger.

Produced in Betim (MG), alongside 1.3 turbo of the same family, the GSE T3 (as it is known internally), is the best-selling 1.0 turbo engine in Brazil today. Its mechanical adjustment is part of the new pollutant emission limits for national cars: regulated by Proconve L8, such limits will become stricter over time, in order to stimulate the sale of less polluting vehicles. With the new configuration, the T200 engine now delivers 116 hp, regardless of the fuel used. This is a retraction in relation to the current 125 hp (gasoline) and 130 hp (ethanol). However, the torque of 20.4 kgfm remains unchanged, ensuring quick responses at low revs and efficient resumptions in traffic.

In hybrid cars, the set is coupled to the 12V mild hybrid system (BSG), which acts as an electric assistant to relieve the effort of the combustion engine when starting and provide charge for auxiliary systems. In all cases, the transmission remains the CVT-type automatic, with seven-speed simulation.

The first model to adopt the updated engine will be the Jeep Avenger, an SUV positioned below the Renegade. With 4.08 meters in length and 2.56 meters in wheelbase, the utility will be the cheapest Jeep in Brazil. The national model will already arrive with the new visual update, including touches to the grille and bumpers, as well as a cabin with more refined materials.

Production will be concentrated at the Porto Real (RJ) plant, using the Smart Car platform — the same modular base as the Citroën C3 family. The operation is part of Stellantis’ R$ 3 billion investment cycle in the Rio de Janeiro unit until 2030. The commercial launch is scheduled for the second half of 2026, already as a 2027 line.
