App update includes promised safety features since 2024 and warnings about stopped emergency vehicles
Waze has started notifying its user base about the implementation of a new feature pack on the platform. The features — many of which have been awaited since the first announcements in 2024 — are finally starting to be distributed globally, aiming to increase predictability and safety while driving.
The update focuses on “reading” the road. The objective is to offer the driver an early view of obstacles, inserting more dynamic visual and audible alerts.

One of the main novelties is the speed limit change alert. The tool aims to solve a recurring problem on highways and expressways: the abrupt transition of limits (from 90 km/h to 60 km/h, for example), which often results in violations or sudden braking. With early warning, driving becomes more fluid and defensive.
The package also includes the “Waze for Cities” feature, which integrates data from local partners. In countries such as the United States, Canada, Mexico and France, the functionality already operates in greater detail, issuing alerts about emergency vehicles stopped on the side of the road (such as ambulances and police cars), which protects rescue teams and prevents secondary accidents.
To top it off, the app has improved the suggestion of alternative routes in real time and the warning about adverse weather conditions, such as storms. The distribution of the new features occurs in a staggered manner and should be available to all users (Android and iOS) in the coming weeks.
