Volkswagen announced that Tera is now also part of the federal government’s Sustainable Car program. This means that the basic version of the car, the Tera MPI, is now sold with total exemption from the Tax on Industrialized Products (IPI).

According to the automaker, the measure results in a 2.55% reduction in the final price of the vehicle to the consumer. This means that the price of the VW Tera MPI 2026 drops from R$ 108.390 to R$ 105.626. It is practically the same as what was charged until the turn of the year, when the model went for R$ 105.890.

  • List Price: R$ 108.390
  • Price with IPI zero: R$ 105.626
  • Price until Dec/25: R$ 105.890

The Sustainable Car program is a measure adopted by the federal government in order to stimulate the national automotive industry. Public policy waives the IPI on some cars, as long as they are national, low-polluting, and highly recyclable — among other requirements.

With the update of the list, the Tera MPI joins three versions of the Polo (Track, Robust and TSI MT), which were already part of the brand’s eligible portfolio. Since July, when the manufacturer was certified to participate in public policy, 45,206 units of models with zero IPI have been sold.

Fernando Silva, Vice President of Sales and Marketing at Volkswagen do Brasil, said that the inclusion reinforces the company’s commitment to “affordable mobility” and highlights the commercial performance of the vehicle.

The version of the Tera benefiting from the tax exemption is equipped with the 1.0 engine of 84 hp and a five-speed manual transmission. Despite being the entry-level configuration, the Tera MPI maintains a competent list of equipment, with a focus on safety.

The model leaves the factory with six airbags (front, side and curtain), autonomous emergency braking (AEB) with pedestrian detection and ramp start assistant. In terms of comfort and technology, the car offers an 8-inch digital instrument panel, VW Play multimedia center with 10.1-inch touchscreen, electric steering with height and depth adjustments, air conditioning, cruise control and LED headlights with integrated daytime running light.
