The brand's top of the line debuts 800-volt architecture, has a range of 700 km and targets rivals from Mercedes and BMW
Volvo has confirmed the arrival of the ES90 electric sedan in the Brazilian market for the second half of 2026. The model can take over the brand’s top-of-the-line position in the country, positioning itself above the EX90 SUV not only in price, but also in technological sophistication: it debuts the 800-volt electric architecture in the Swedish manufacturer’s national range.
The 800V system — superior to the 400V used by the utility “brother” so far — is the sedan’s main asset to speed up fueling. The technology allows the vehicle to recover 300 km of range in just 10 minutes at 350 kW direct current stations. Equipped with a 106 kWh battery, the ES90 reaches up to 700 km through the WLTP cycle.

The model’s global portfolio provides for three mechanical configurations. The entry-level version has rear-wheel drive, a 329 hp motor and a slightly smaller battery (92 kWh). The intermediate, Twin Motor, raises power to 442 hp with all-wheel drive. At the top of the range, the Performance variant delivers 670 hp, accelerating from 0 to 100 km/h in 3.9 seconds.

Built on the SPA2 platform, the same as the EX90, the sedan had the engineering adjusted to a lower body, which favors driving dynamics. The design, led by Jeremy Offer, merges the classic three-hatchback silhouette with hatchback elements, maintaining the visual signature of the “Thor’s Hammer” headlights and “C” taillights.
The dimensions favor executive comfort. With a wheelbase of 3.10 meters — 11.5 cm extra than the SUV — the ES90 offers generous space for rear passengers. The trunk holds 424 liters, added to a “frunk” (front trunk) of 22 liters.
In the cabin, functional minimalism prevails. The 14.5-inch multimedia center operates with the Google Built-in system, integrating 5G connection and wireless mirroring for Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. The convenience package includes a Bowers & Wilkins sound system with 25 speakers and Dolby Atmos technology, as well as advanced air purification.
In terms of safety, the ES90 will come equipped with a LiDAR sensor on the roof, radars and cameras that prepare the vehicle for future autonomous driving and even detect signs of sudden illness from the driver. The launch price should exceed the current R$ 850 thousand of the EX90, putting the sedan in direct competition with BMW i5 and Mercedes-Benz EQE.
