VW ID. Era 9X bets on a "digital lounge" with giant screens and artificial intelligence to compete in the high-end market with local manufacturers
Volkswagen presented the new VW ID. Era 9X to China, its largest and most ambitious electric SUV to date. Developed by the SAIC-Volkswagen joint venture , the model marks a step change for the German automaker, which is now targeting the competitive high-end segment dominated by local manufacturers. With imposing proportions, the SUV was designed to offer a combined range that seeks to overcome the 1,000 km barrier, using state-of-the-art energy efficiency technologies.

The great differential of the ID. Era 9X is in the design of its interior, which abandons the traditional layout to create a “digital lounge” experience. For the occupants of the second and third rows, Volkswagen installed a 21.4″ folding screen mounted on the roof.
The system features angle compensation technology, ensuring optimal visibility regardless of seat tilt. The internal configuration of six equal seats ensures that all passengers enjoy the same level of ergonomic comfort and access to technological features, with floating design elements that extend the feeling of space.

The front panel is dominated by two 15.6″ screens with ultra-high-definition resolution, one of which is dedicated exclusively to passenger entertainment. The idea is to transform the vehicle into a space for coexistence and productivity, reflecting the demands of the Chinese premium consumer.

In the field of artificial intelligence, the SUV integrates multimodal software capable of recognizing passengers’ emotions and adjusting the interior environment or suggesting voice interactions. The assisted driving system has also been improved, allowing independent navigation on urban and road routes without relying on preloaded maps. Although restricted to the Chinese market at this early stage, the ID. Era 9X serves as a technology laboratory for future global releases of the ID family.
