Toyota officially presented the ninth generation of the Hilux during the Brussels Motor Show in Belgium. The launch marks a new stage in the more than 50-year trajectory of the medium pickup, which now offers a 100% electric configuration, in addition to an update to the traditional diesel engine, now aided by a 48V mild-hybrid system.

The strategy aims to adapt the model, which has more than 21 million units sold globally, to strict European emissions standards, without giving up the construction on a stringer chassis – an essential feature for off-road durability.

The great technical novelty is the Hilux BEV. Aimed at commercial operations, the electric version is equipped with a 59.2 kWh battery and maintains all-wheel drive, ensuring immediate torque on both axles. The projected range is 380 km in the urban cycle, falling to around 257 km in the combined cycle (WLTP) – figures that reinforce its focus on working fleets with defined routes.

For the traditional public, Toyota kept the 2.8 turbodiesel engine, but added a 48V hybrid system with a lithium-ion battery. The technology promises to reduce fuel consumption and smooth the operation of the start-stop system, improving response when starting.

Design and market arrival

Visually, the new Hilux adopts more aggressive and contemporary lines, with the front grille redesigned to convey robustness. In Europe, the model will be sold exclusively in the double cab configuration.

The technology package has also been updated, including the Toyota Safety Sense driving assistant suite and the Multi-Terrain selector for the electric version. Sales of the new generation begin in the UK in June 2026, with expansion to other European markets expected in the second half.
