Named Tribute, the model uses LED technology to simulate the look of the original car; production will be focused on Japan.

Renowned Italian design firm Italdesign has officially unveiled the Honda NSX Tribute, a project that seeks to reinterpret the iconic Japanese sports car of the 1990s from a contemporary perspective. Unlike a traditional restomod , which modernizes old chassis, the model was built entirely on the technological basis of the second generation of the NSX, recently discontinued by Honda.

The studio’s proposal is to unite the purist aesthetics of the first generation — famous for the chassis adjustment made by Ayrton Senna — with the performance of the modern mechanical set. Under the redesigned bodywork, the hybrid system that combines a 3.5-liter twin-turbo V6 engine with three electric motors is maintained, delivering current supercar performance with all-wheel drive.

Creative solution for modern legislation

Exterior design faces one of the biggest challenges in today’s automotive industry: reviving retractable headlights in compliance with stringent pedestrian safety regulations. Italdesign’s solution was to create motorized LED “eyelids” that open to reveal the main optical assembly, simulating the striking look of the 1990 model without breaking regulations.

At the rear, the tribute continues with a floating LED-lit spoiler that refers to the original one-piece taillight. The roof gained a functional air intake snorkel , inspired by the rare homologation NSX-R GT version. The Championship White finish with red emblems completes the visual package, evoking the brand’s racing lineage.

The production will be strictly limited and customizable, aimed at collectors in markets with an English hand, such as Japan and the United Kingdom. The launch comes at a time of transition for Honda, which has already announced plans for a future all-electric successor to the NSX lineup, making this tribute a likely farewell to the combustion era in the model’s history.
