Global sales of Volkswagen ID.Buzz, the electric reinterpretation of the classic Kombi Corujinha, doubled in 2025 compared to the previous year, consolidating the model’s recovery after a lukewarm start to sales. Growth was mainly driven by demand in Europe and the opening of the North American market, where the elongated version (LWB) began to be delivered.

According to data released by the automaker and reported by the international press, the volume of deliveries jumped significantly, surpassing the barrier of 70 thousand units per year projected in some optimistic scenarios. The positive performance contradicts recent rumors about a possible discontinuation of production in the United States and reaffirms the brand’s bet on nostalgia combined with electrification.

In Brazil, model lives niche reality

While it takes to the streets abroad, the situation of ID.Buzz in Brazil remains restricted. Volkswagen does not sell the vehicle via retail in the country. The only official way to have one in the garage is through the VW Sign & Drive subscription program.

Initially, the batch destined for the Brazilian market was only 70 units commemorating the brand’s 70th anniversary in the country. Due to the low initial demand, caused by the high cost, the automaker reduced the monthly fee: the plan, which started at around R$ 13 thousand, today starts at approximately R$ 8,990 for 48-month contracts.

The strategy of keeping the “electric Kombi” only as a technological showcase and rental product reflects the challenge of high-cost electric vehicles in Brazil. With no forecast of nationalization or direct sale in dealerships, ID.Buzz remains a rare figure on Brazilian streets, accessible only to a select group of subscribers.
