Driver lost control after having his vision obstructed by insects; Firefighters found the vehicle completely covered during the rescue
An unusual accident recorded in the Northwest region of Rio Grande do Sul resulted in the hospitalization of a 57-year-old woman. This is because, last Sunday (4), a vehicle overturned in the rural area of the municipality of Jóia after being hit by a swarm of bees. According to reports from the victims to the authorities, the insects covered the windshield of the moving car, completely blocking the driver’s view.
According to the Fire Department, the driver lost control of the steering due to visual obstruction and momentary panic. The car left the road, overturned and only stopped after colliding with an electricity pole. Images released by the rescue team show the bodywork and windows of the vehicle still taken by bees during the occurrence.

In addition to the 57-year-old woman, the 37-year-old driver and a child of only one and a half years old were in the vehicle. All occupants suffered bites and managed to get out of the car by their own means to call for help in nearby residences. The older passenger was taken to the Hospital de Clínicas de Ijuí, where she remained hospitalized for observation. The other victims received medical attention and have already been discharged.
Experts point out that the incident may be linked to the phenomenon of “swarming”, common at this time of year, when entire colonies of bees migrate in search of new places to settle. The guidance for drivers who come across clouds of insects is to immediately close the windows, reduce speed safely and avoid sudden movements that could irritate the swarm.
