New 7-seater SUV will be produced in Mexico and may land in the country with hybrid options to face Jeep Commander
Volkswagen has made the Tayron R-Line official as its new top-of-the-line SUV for emerging markets, such as India, where it debuts in the first quarter of 2026. The model, however, has global ambitions and is a key part of the brand’s strategy for Brazil, where it should assume the position of natural successor to the Tiguan Allspace in the seven-seater SUV segment.
Built on the MQB EVO platform, the Tayron fills the gap of the brand’s family vehicles with an elongated wheelbase of 2.79 m — an essential dimension to accommodate the third row of seats. Visually, the R-Line version bets on sportiness with aggressive bumpers, glossy black finishes and 19-inch wheels, in addition to boasting a maximum rating of five stars in Euro NCAP safety tests.

The Brazilian specialized press points out that the Tayron will land in the country imported from Mexico (Puebla plant), taking advantage of the trade agreement that exempts the vehicle from import tax. The launch is expected to take place throughout 2026, positioned above the Taos to compete directly with the Jeep Commander and the CAOA Chery Tiggo 8.
Unlike the Indian model — which received a specific “tropicalization” with ventilation in the seats instead of heating — the version for Brazil is still surrounded by expectations regarding the engine. While the Asian market receives the 2.0 TSI of 204 hp, it is speculated that, here, Volkswagen may introduce hybrid variants (eTSI or eHybrid), in line with the brand’s decarbonization plan in South America.

Inside, the technological package should follow the global standard, with a digital panel, configurable ambient lighting and a 15-inch floating multimedia center, which concentrates most of the vehicle’s functions and eliminates physical buttons.
