The transition to electric cars seems to be a path of no return for those who have already taken the first step. A new survey conducted in the United States has revealed that loyalty to electric vehicles has reached record levels, contrary to skepticism on the part of the market. According to the study by the consultancy J.D. Power, almost all current owners plan to purchase another battery-powered model as their next car.

The most striking data from the survey points out that, even among consumers who benefited from the old federal tax credit of US$ 7,500 – a financial incentive that is no longer in force in the country – 96% say they intend to remain in the electric segment. This loyalty and retention rate is considered very rare in the traditional automotive industry.

The advancement of infrastructure and satisfaction scores

Improvement in the charger network was one of the main factors for high satisfaction

One of the main drivers for this high approval is the significant improvement in the public charging infrastructure, the historical villain of electric vehicles. In J.D. Power’s metric, which evaluates the scenario on a scale of up to 1,000 points, the perception of public charging jumped significantly: owners of premium electric vehicles gave it a score of 652 (up 101 points in one year), while in the mass market the index rose to 511 (up 115 points).

In terms of overall satisfaction with the vehicle, electric vehicles have a wide advantage over plug-in hybrids (PHEVs), with premium 100% battery models registering 786 points.

The darlings of the market

Among the best-rated vehicles in its first year of use, the Tesla Model 3 leads the overall ranking and the luxury segment with 804 points, setting the market standard. It is closely followed by the “brother” Model Y (797) and the German BMW i4 (795). In the crowded mass market, the Ford Mustang Mach-E took the lead with 760 points, surpassing the South Korean Hyundai Ioniq 6 (748) and the Kia EV9 SUV (745).

Carried out in partnership with the PlugShare platform, the survey heard 5,741 owners of 2025 and 2026 models. The conclusion is clear: despite the political turmoil, the practical day-to-day experience (which involves lower maintenance costs, ease of home recharging, and dynamic performance) is consolidating the technology almost irreversibly among its users.
