Golf star suspected of driving under the influence of chemical substances; Alcohol test was negative, but athlete refused complementary tests
Golf star Tiger Woods was arrested last Friday afternoon (27) in Florida after being involved in a rollover while driving a Land Rover Range Rover SV. Considered the biggest name in the history of his sport – a figure whose dominance in the sport between the 1990s and 2000s elevated him to the level of global icons such as Pelé or Michael Jordan – Woods is once again the target of investigations for driving under the influence of drugs.
The accident occurred around 2 pm on a two-lane road near his residence on Jupiter Island. According to the authorities’ report, the athlete attempted to overtake at high speed, but ended up hitting the back of a jet wash trailer. The impact caused the luxury SUV to overturn and stop on the driver’s side.

Although the breathalyzer test was negative for alcohol, the officers made the arrest on suspicion of chemical poisoning due to Woods’ altered behavior. The golfer refused to provide a urine sample, which resulted in additional charges of refusal to legal testing and property damage.
The episode rescues the troubled history of the winner of 15 “Majors” tournaments, the most important in golf. This is Woods’ fourth major accident in two decades. In 2009, he collided with a Cadillac under the influence of sedatives; in 2017, he was arrested sleeping at the wheel; and in 2021, he suffered serious fractures in his legs when he overturned a vehicle at almost twice the allowed speed. Since then, the athlete has undergone several surgeries and is using strong painkillers for chronic pain, a factor that the police are investigating as a possible cause of the new incident.
