Volkswagen ended 2025 consolidating South America as its region with the highest percentage expansion on the planet. Sales rose 14.6% compared to the previous year, totaling 569,174 vehicles. The result reaffirms the weight of the continent for the German headquarters, surpassing the growth rate of other global markets.

Brazil acted as the engine of this performance: with a volume of more than 436 thousand registrations and an increase of 9%, the country remained Volkswagen’s third largest market in the world, behind only China and Germany itself. The Brazilian operation also secured the “triple crown” for the third consecutive year: overall leadership in passenger cars (where Fiat Strada, the overall leader, does not enter), in the hatchback segment and among SUVs.

In the breakdown by models, the hegemony of veterans added to the impact of the novelties. The Polo led among all passenger cars for the 2023-2025 triennium, closing last year with 122,675 units. In SUVs, the new T-Cross was the favorite, totaling 92,839 registrations and helping the brand to sell more than 204 thousand SUVs in the country.

Outside Brazil, the economic recovery of neighbors boosted the numbers. Argentina recorded a significant jump of 47.4% (94,635 vehicles), followed by increases in Colombia (39%), Chile (23%) and Uruguay (13%).

Brazilian production was decisive in supplying this regional demand. In addition to the Polo and the T-Cross, which together totaled more than 260 thousand units in South America, the recently launched Tera showed strength. The model, which hit the market only in June, has already registered 56,241 units sold and started exports to 18 countries.

For Hendrik Muth, VW’s Vice President of Sales and Marketing in the region, the balance of 2025 reflects the success in the renewal of the portfolio and the capillarity of the network. The executive also highlights Brazil’s role as an export hub: shipments grew 29%, totaling 116,495 vehicles sent abroad.
