China’s entry-level electric car market, currently one of the fiercest in the global automotive industry, will gain a competitor well known to Brazilians. That’s because Chery is about to launch the new Chery QQ3 EV — a hatch that arrives to challenge the hegemony of consolidated models, such as the BYD Dolphin and the Geely EX2.

When naming the new model, the manufacturer resorted to one of its most iconic products: the QQ line. Originally launched in 2003 for a low-cost subcompact, the family was Chery’s gateway to several global markets. In Brazil, the combustion model had a remarkable trajectory between 2011 and 2019, becoming, for a period, the cheapest car in the country.

The QQ3 EV, however, is a generational leap in terms of refinement and dimensions. With a length of 4.20 meters and a wheelbase of 2.70 m, the hatch is slightly larger than its main rival from Geely, offering optimized interior space. The design favors rounded lines and nostalgic elements, such as circular headlights, but the interior is purely digital, dominated by a 15.6″ multimedia center and a raised center console.

Mechanically, the model offers versatility: there are two options of rear motors (79 hp or 121 hp) and LFP batteries that guarantee a range of up to 420 km in the Chinese cycle (CLTC). Chery’s offensive seems to have an immediate effect; The pre-sale, which started in February, has already surpassed the mark of 27 thousand units reserved. Although the estimated prices between 70 thousand and 110 thousand yuan (about R$ 52.5 thousand to R$ 82.5 thousand) are attractive, the brand still maintains secrecy about the plans to export the model to Brazil.
