Measure aims to improve fluidity on holidays such as Carnival and Holy Week; Non-compliance generates a fine and retention of the vehicle
The Federal Highway Police has made official the calendar of traffic restrictions on federal highways for the year 2026. The measure, published annually, aims to mitigate the risk of serious accidents and ensure road fluidity during long holiday periods, when the volume of passenger vehicles increases significantly on the road network.
The restrictions apply specifically to the transit of Cargo Vehicle Combinations (CVC), Vehicle Transport Combinations (CTV) and Vehicle Transport Combinations and Palletized Loads (CTVP). The prohibition applies to units that exceed the following regulatory limits: width greater than 2.60 meters, height above 4.40 meters, total length greater than 19.80 meters and Total Combined Gross Weight (GVW) greater than 57 tons.
Vehicles that do not fit these weight and dimension specifications remain free to circulate.

The focus of the operation is concentrated on critical dates in the national calendar, such as Carnival, Holy Week and end-of-year festivities. The PRF’s strategy is to remove large vehicles from circulation at peak hours — usually on the departures and returns of holidays — to reduce the lethality of frontal collisions, common in attempts to overtake on single lanes, and reduce the traffic of slow vehicles.
Drivers who are caught not complying with the ordinance will be subject to a medium infraction, according to the Brazilian Traffic Code. The penalty includes a fine of R$ 130.16, an increase of four points on the National Driver’s License (CNH) and the retention of the vehicle until the end of the established restrictive hours.
It is important to note that, due to logistical and supply specificities, the circulation restriction will not be applied in the states of the North region: Acre, Amazonas, Amapá, Pará and Roraima.
