Animals had been stolen from a farm in Caruaru; seven died of asphyxiation inside the vehicle abandoned on the side of the road
The Federal Highway Police located, in the early hours of Tuesday (3), an abandoned vehicle on the shoulder of BR-104, in Caruaru (PE), containing 18 animals crammed in precarious conditions. The incident occurred during a Tactical Patrol patrol at km 62 of the highway. Upon inspecting the car, which was unlocked and without occupants, the agents found goats and sheep confined in the back seat and trunk.
According to the corporation, the absence of ventilation in the reduced space caused the death of seven animals by asphyxiation. The 11 survivors showed severe signs of exhaustion and were sent to the PRF police station in Caruaru, where they received water and food. The live cargo will be transferred to the Pernambuco Agricultural Defense and Inspection Agency (Adagro) before being returned to the farm of origin.

Preliminary investigations pointed out that the animals had been stolen from a rural property on the eve of the act.
