The Federal Highway Police (PRF) started this Friday (13) Operation Carnival 2026, with reinforcement in the inspection of infractions associated with serious accidents on federal highways, especially the combination of alcohol and driving, as well as speeding and prohibited overtaking.

The performance is concentrated in the corridors that lead to the most popular destinations during the holiday, such as Rio de Janeiro, São Paulo, Minas Gerais, Espírito Santo, Santa Catarina, Bahia, Pernambuco, Paraíba and Ceará.

In 2025, the PRF carried out more than 3.5 million alcohol tests in the country. There were more than 7.9 thousand fines for driving under the influence of alcohol and 43 thousand notifications for refusal to take the breathalyzer test.

The reinforcement of actions began on January 30, with the National Day of Awareness Zero Alcohol in Traffic. On that date, 22,845 tests were carried out, with 47 fines for drunkenness and 368 for refusal, in addition to 157 arrests for traffic crimes related to alcohol consumption.

For Carnival, the PRF resumed a partnership with the Brazilian Society of Orthopedics and Traumatology (SBOT) in the Carnival without Trauma campaign, aimed at raising awareness about the risks of alcohol driving.

In support of the actions, the Ministry of Women will promote information campaigns against sexual assault and harassment, with the installation of banners at PRF stations in the 27 capitals and dissemination of the Call 180.

The corporation advises drivers to check the vehicle, carry regular documentation and respect speed limits and signs. The use of the belt is mandatory for all occupants, and children up to seven and a half years old must use the appropriate restraint devices. Overtaking must only occur on the left and in permitted places. In case of rain, the recommendation is to reduce speed and keep a safe distance.

Motorcyclists should wear helmets and avoid traveling in blind spots or near trucks, due to the risk of destabilization.
