Ford has broadened its offensive in the commercial vehicle market with the introduction of the Transit City in Europe. The new model, 100% electric, arrives to occupy the urban transport segment in the one-ton range, focusing on simplicity and efficiency for fleet owners who operate in the “last mile” delivery regime. Pre-sales begin in the second quarter of 2026, with deliveries scheduled for the end of the year.

The automaker’s strategy is based on real-world usage data: statistics from the Ford Pro division indicate that 90% of vans in this segment travel, on average, less than 110 km per day. Thus, the Transit City was equipped with a 56 kWh lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery, which guarantees an estimated range of up to 254 km. The choice of LFP chemistry aims to maximize durability and efficiency in fast charging; at a 67 kW direct current (DC) station, it is possible to recover 80% of the charge in 30 minutes.

In addition to the reduction in emissions, the main selling point is financial. Ford projects that the maintenance cost will be about 40% lower than that of an equivalent diesel model, thanks to the lower mechanical complexity and the interval of revisions every two years or 40 thousand km. The electric motor of about 150 hp offers instant torque and allows for one-pedal driving, making it easier to operate in heavy traffic.

In terms of versatility, the utility will be offered in three configurations: the compact L1H1 (1,085 kg payload), the L2H2 with a high roof (1,275 kg and 8.5 m³ of volume) and an unprecedented chassis cab version for customized implementations in this category. Internally, the vehicle has a 12-inch multimedia screen and safety assistants, such as autonomous emergency braking and lane departure alert. To ensure robustness, the van underwent tests equivalent to 10 years of severe use, with an eight-year warranty for high-voltage components.
