The cost of auto insurance in Brazil registered an average increase of 15% in the first two months of 2026, driven by a combination of economic instability and technical changes in the national fleet. According to a survey by Creditas Seguros, the readjustment was not uniform between genders: while the male profile rose by 14%, the female public faced an increase of 16% in the period.

Exchange rate and claims put pressure on policies

Industry experts point out that pricing has been severely affected by the appreciation of the dollar, which makes it more expensive to import components. Added to this are the increase in claims in metropolitan areas and the troubled international scenario – including tensions in the Middle East and the volatility of interest rates – factors that increase the premium needed to cover the volume of claims.

Despite the upward trend, popular models maintain competitive values. For men, the Volkswagen Polo Comfortline TSI had the lowest average (R$ 2,231.06). Among women, the Hyundai HB20 Sense Plus was the highlight of savings, with an average of R$ 2,591.65. The market expectation is that prices will stabilize as the technical assistance network for new entrants matures.

The logistical challenge of electric cars

The BYD Dolphin Mini has become an emblematic case of rising costs, with averages of R$ 3,974.27 for men and R$ 5,834.30 for women. The disparity reflects the complexity of parts logistics for a high-volume model with a replacement network still expanding in Brazil.

In addition to logistics, the engineering of electric vehicles (EVs) imposes additional costs. Post-collision repairs require the inactivation of the high-voltage system by specialized technicians to mitigate fire or shock risks. The need for specific equipment for software calibration and the safe handling of batteries are operating costs that end up being passed on directly to the end consumer in insurance policies.
