The Japan Mobility Show 2025 came to an end with positive results, but without the presentation of the long-awaited Prelude Type R. The Honda Prelude Concept had been shown for the first time in 2023, and the expectation was that the sports version would debut at this year’s event, which did not materialize. Still, new information about the model drew attention.

According to the information released, the Prelude, recently relaunched, should gain an intermediate version called Type S, equipped with a 1.5 turbo engine. In addition, Honda continues to evaluate the development of a Prelude Type R, although its immediate presentation was considered unlikely, especially after the launch of the eHEV engine.

The Prelude Type R, if confirmed, will be a front-wheel drive sports car equipped with the 2.0 VTEC turbocharged in-line four-cylinder engine of the Civic Type R, with an estimated power of 330 hp and torque of 42,8 kgfm. The model will use exclusively a gasoline engine, without electrification, and will have a smaller wheelbase than the Civic Type R, favoring a more agile driving. The Type R is expected to launch in the fall of 2027, while the Prelude Type S is expected to hit the market before then.
