GAC has confirmed for next May the debut of the Aion UT, its first 100% electric compact hatch for the Brazilian market. The model lands with the strategic mission of facing the leaders of the segment, such as the BYD Dolphin and the Geely EX2, expanding the options in the segment. The Chinese manufacturer’s bet lies in an engineering trump card: the use of internal space that promises to exceed the current standards of the category.

The commercial viability of the project in the country gains traction with the confirmation of national production in partnership with HPE Automotores. The Aion UT will be assembled at the Catalão (GO) plant, a unit that already houses Mitsubishi and Suzuki operations. This nationalization is part of an aggressive offensive by GAC for the 2026-2027 biennium, which began with the GS3 SUV and should be reinforced by the GS8 and S9 large SUVs in the second half of this year.

Adapted architecture and autonomy

With a length of 4.27 meters, the Aion UT surprises with its wheelbase of 2.75 meters — a measure identical to that of consolidated medium SUVs, such as the BYD Song Plus. This configuration favors the comfort of the rear occupants and the modularity of the cabin, critical points in urban vehicles. Under the floor, the hatch houses a 44.1 kWh battery that powers the 136 hp electric motor and 20.4 kgfm of immediate torque.

Although the tests in the Chinese cycle (CLTC) point to a range of 420 km, the expectation for Brazilian homologation under Inmetro criteria is approximately 330 km. The technological package should be divided into two versions, offering six airbags and driver assistance systems (ADAS) as standard. The model also stands out visually for its panoramic sunroof and interior finish in light tones, reinforcing the perception of spaciousness that the brand intends to transform into its main sales argument.
