Ford this week recalled owners of the Transit van, model years 2025 and 2026, for a preventive recall due to a failure in the attachment of the power steering system’s wiring harness. According to the manufacturer’s statement, the technical defect can cause wear of the wiring by friction against metallic components of the steering column, resulting in a short circuit.

The problem poses severe security risks. In extreme cases, the short circuit can generate a fire in the engine compartment. In addition, faulty wiring compromises critical driver assistance features. The pre-collision assistant, blind spot monitoring and parking sensors, as well as the steering assistance itself, can be suddenly deactivated, increasing the risk of collisions and serious injuries to occupants and third parties.

Models involved and repair schedule

The call covers units produced between April 2024 and October 2025. For the 2025 models, the chassis involved (last eight digits) comprise the range from SU016023 to SU017981. For the 2026 model year, the numbering goes from TTC54815 to TU022178. Ford recommends that drivers be aware of any error alerts on the instrument panel.

Although the announcement has been made now, service at dealerships will only start in the second quarter of 2026. The service, free of charge and with an estimated duration of 1h20, consists of inspecting and adjusting the harness fixation. If damage is already detected, the company will perform a complete replacement of the component. Confirmation of the need for repair can be made through the FordPass app, by calling 0800 703 3673 or directly at the dealership network.
