Former Flamengo coach denies responsibility for Land Rover problems and says transaction was brokered by dealer
Fired from Flamengo in early March, coach Filipe Luís presented his challenge in a lawsuit that is being processed in the Rio de Janeiro courts. The lawsuit, filed by a taxi driver, refers to the sale of a Land Rover Evoque that would have had a series of mechanical failures shortly after the acquisition.
The current owner of the vehicle claims that the car manifested serious problems, including overheating, fuel leakage and gearbox defects. According to the plaintiff, the total cost of repairs exceeded the mark of R$ 36 thousand. In addition to compensation for repairs, the buyer claims compensation for moral damages in the amount of R$ 10 thousand.

In the defense presented, the 40-year-old coach maintains that there was no direct transaction with the claimant. The lawyers claim that the vehicle was delivered to a dealer as part of the payment for the purchase of a new car. Based on this argument, Filipe Luís argues that the responsibility for any hidden defects should fall on the company that intermediated the final marketing to the taxi driver.
The defense also emphasizes that the Land Rover did not present any irregularity while it was in the possession of the former full-back. According to the technician’s representatives, the car was passed on to the dealership in perfect condition of use, which would exempt the former owner from failures that arose later.
The legal imbroglio arises at a time of transition in the professional’s career. After a victorious cycle at the helm of Flamengo – marked by Libertadores, Brasileiro and Copa do Brasil titles, in addition to the election as the best coach in America in 2025 – Filipe Luís is tipped to take on projects in European football. The case is still in the investigation phase in Rio de Janeiro.
