The Vice President and Minister of Development, Industry, Commerce and Services (MDIC), Geraldo Alckmin, launched last Thursday (8) the “Move Brasil” program. The initiative provides a R$ 10 billion credit line for the renewal of the truck fleet in the country, offering reduced interest rates to transport companies, cooperatives and, especially, self-employed truck drivers.

The financial operation will be in charge of the National Bank for Economic and Social Development (BNDES). Of the total amount, R$ 6 billion comes from the National Treasury, while the rest will be contributed by the development bank. One of the highlights of the measure is the reserve of R$ 1 billion exclusively for self-employed and cooperative drivers, historically the ones who find the most difficulties in accessing bank credit.

The program was made possible via a Provisional Measure and regulated by the National Monetary Council (CMN), establishing sustainability criteria. The rules encourage the withdrawal of polluting vehicles from circulation: there will be financial advantages for the owner who proves the dismantling of trucks with more than 20 years of use. For this, the old vehicle must have regular licensing and in running condition.

According to the Ministry of Finance, the initiative does not generate a primary fiscal impact, since the financing is repayable and without a guarantee from the Union – the risk of the operation is assumed by financial institutions. The credit ceiling per beneficiary is R$ 50 million.

According to the rules, interested parties have until June 30, 2026 to submit their applications. The financing covers trucks manufactured from 2012 onwards, with even more favorable conditions for models powered by electricity or biomethane. The term for payment reaches 60 months, with a grace period of up to six months without interest capitalization in this period.
