Buick's new electric model combines massage, 4K screen and plenty of power to challenge Chinese rivals in the fierce minivan segment
Buick officially presented in China the Buick GL8 Encasa EV, an all-electric version that arrives to consolidate the brand’s presence in the luxury minivan segment. The result of the joint venture between SAIC Motor and General Motors, the model debuts with a price of 489,900 yuan (approximately R$ 373 thousand in direct conversion), positioning itself as a sophisticated and high-performance alternative within the traditional GL8 family.
Visually, the model preserves the identity of the plug-in hybrid variant, standing out for its front with clean lines and headlights divided into two levels. The design prioritizes energy efficiency, with retractable door handles and an aerodynamic coefficient of 0.258. On the roof, the presence of a LiDAR sensor indicates investment in autonomous driving assistance technologies.

At 5.26 metres long, the GL8 Encasa offers a “first class” experience for seven occupants in a 2+2+3 configuration. The interior is marked by refinement, including rear seats with massage function and a generous 4K retractable screen on the roof. Bose’s premium sound system and 630-liter trunk complete the package focused on executive and family comfort.

Under the hood, the minivan surprises with its numbers worthy of sports cars: two electric motors deliver a combined 646 hp and 56,1 kgfm, allowing it to accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in just 5,1 seconds. Autonomy is another asset; the 96 kWh battery provides up to 601 km of range in the Chinese CLTC cycle. In addition, the electric architecture allows ultra-fast recharging, going from 10% to 80% in just 11 minutes.
The launch comes at a strategic time, shortly after the arrival of the hybrid version in December 2025. Now fully electrified, the Buick GL8 Encasa enters the direct confrontation with strong local competitors, such as Zeekr 009, Li Mega and Xpeng X9, in one of the most disputed and innovative markets in the world.
