Software error affects 30 xDrive and M50 xDrive versions produced in 2025; update can be done remotely
BMW do Brasil announced, last Friday (6), the call for a recall involving the X3 30 xDrive and X3 M50 xDrive SUVs. The safety campaign covers units manufactured between May 4 and October 9, 2025 and aims to correct a critical software flaw in the electric steering system.
According to the automaker’s statement, an anomaly was identified in the programming of the Electronic Control Unit (ECU). The error directly interferes with the reading of the steering box’s torque sensor, which can result in involuntary steering wheel movements. In driving situations, this interference increases the risk of losing control of the vehicle, which can cause serious or fatal accidents to occupants and third parties.

The solution presented by the manufacturer reflects the digitalization of new vehicles: the repair consists of an update of the system code. The procedure can be performed remotely (Over-the-Air), directly through the car’s multimedia center, eliminating the need to go to the workshop in many cases. However, for owners who prefer or encounter difficulties, the network of authorized dealerships is able to perform the service free of charge, with an estimated repair time of about 45 minutes.
The Consumer Protection Code determines that recalls are free and that the service is provided in a way that does not generate a burden on the customer. BMW has made available on its official website the “Recall Search Tool”, where it is possible to check the need for repair by entering the chassis number.
For questions and scheduling, BMW’s Customer Service (SAC) is available by phone at 0800 019 7097, Monday to Friday, from 9 am to 6 pm.
