App driver Milton Gomes, 31, found, in music, an alternative to circumvent traffic boredom and financial instability in Natal (RN). By converting his vehicle into a mobile karaoke, he transformed the simple urban commute into a personalized entertainment experience, winning over Uber and 99 passengers and going viral on social networks in the capital of Rio Grande do Sul, as shown by the agency Learn More.

The structure set up by Gomes is simple but creative: a sign affixed behind the driver’s seat signals the availability of the service, allowing the passenger to choose the repertoire via mobile device. To complete the “stage” atmosphere, the vehicle received rhythmic LED lights and a dedicated microphone. According to the driver, the singing peaks during the weekends, driven by an audience that seeks to prolong the atmosphere of relaxation after parties and bars.

The idea, implemented about four months ago, was inspired by a similar project in Florianópolis (SC). For Gomes, the investment in technology and differentiated service was the answer to a moment of personal vulnerability. A former mall salesman, he joined the transportation industry three and a half years ago, shortly after being fired while his wife was pregnant — which forced him to trade his motorcycle for a car to support his family.

The recognition was not restricted to compliments and the most generous tips. The “Potiguar Driver”, as he is known digitally, saw the demand for private rides grow, even being hired to transport a bride to his wedding last Saturday (14). For users, the man believes, the service represents a welcome break from the city’s commuting routine, adding value to a service that, for many, had become merely getting from point A to point B.
