You will start to notice that some electric cars have a piece of equipment called EREV. But what is this animal? The term EREV is the initials in English.

The letters ER stand for Extended Range, in Portuguese, extended range. The EV part, on the other hand, stands for Electric Vehicle, that is, an electric car with extended range.

In other words, when the battery of an electric car runs out, a small combustion engine comes into action that drives a generator responsible for charging the battery. This allows the car to continue running electrically.

That is, it has a combustion engine and electric, but it is not a hybrid because the combustion engine does not drive the wheels, it only prevents the car from stopping in the middle of the street without a battery, as it recharges the necessary one. In Brazil, he has already had a BMW, the i3, electric for more than ten years with the EREV system.
